Year: 2005

January 9 and 23: Love for a Lifetime, Parent session on January 9:30 10:30 a.m. , followed by lunch with talk-back/dialogue, as they respond to the proposed presentation for their senior high teen kids. Teen session on January 23, same schedule. Initiative by the Wilmore Free Methodist Church youth ministry team.

February 1: Families, Children, and Teens at Risk: Hope When Jerusalem Lies in Ruins! Exploring Hardwired to Connect research report from the Commission on Children at Risk. Keyed into ATS Ministry Conference Theme from Nehemiah 1:17-18. Two hour seminar, with handouts, at Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, KY on opening day of the 2005 Ministry Conference. Host: Wayne Burt, Director of Continuing Education 1-800-2-ASBURY.

February 17: Therapeutic Keys for Foster Parents on Dealing with Sexual Issues. Woodlawn Children's Campus, sexual issues include risk-management in the foster-home, re-bonding and attachment strategies to strengthen children's identity, unique contributions of foster parents. February 20: Never-Ending Love Story, New Halls Ferry FMC, Florissant , MO , 10:30 a.m. morning worship speaker.  Host, Pastor, Andrew Wills, at nhffmc@swbell.net, church phone 314-831-4450.

February 24-27: Veritas Forum, University of Kentucky Singletary Center for the Arts, site of lectures and a 7 p.m. dramatic presentation of C. S. Lewis’ The Great Divorce as part of a larger program devoted to the classic novel.  Joy is one of a panel of respondents to core issues from the novel for DVD presentation available to all who attend the drama.

March 4-6: God’s Blueprint for the Familya weekend conference at Christ United Methodist Church , Greeneville , Tennessee , host: Pastor Tim Bracken. Includes family night with “Risk-Proofing Your Family,” men/boys' breakfast, "In the Image of God: Male," a women/girls' luncheon, "In the Image of God: Female," and a teen session, "Born for Loving: Foundations for Life-Long Marriage," and a Sunday-school parent encouragement seminar, "Empower Your Kids to Be Adults," concluding with the morning sermon, "God's Never Ending Love Story."  Tentative: Staff encouragement conference Saturday afternoon, “Hardwired to Connect: A Report on Children at Risk and the role of authoritative communities.”  

March 13: “Born for Loving: Foundations for Life-Long Marriage.”  Wilmore Free Methodist Church , 9:30 a.m. College class plus lunch-time dialogue.  Don and Robbie, hosted by David and Carol Couillette

March 19-20: R & R at Knoxville , TN Holiday Inn.

April 2-9: Four Seasons at Fairfield Resort at Williamsburg Kingsgate.  Location: 613 Georgetown Crescent , Williamsburg , VA 23185  757-220-5702. Occupancy limit 10.

April 14-15: “Born for Loving: Foundations for Life-Long Marriage.” Wesley Foundation at Ole Miss University , Oxford , MS .  Mark Taylor, Director, Host.

April 24: “Risk-Proofing Your Family.”  Parent Support Group at Centenary United Methodist church, Danville , KY , 5 p.m. , Host: Pastor David Mullins.

May 14: Whirlwind Day: Mel’s Shop, Dayton, Ohio, then to Brazil, Indiana to rendezvous with Richard Royer and Mary June –both Royer cousins of mine for condolences on Rich’s loss of wife Jean to ovarian cancer a few weeks ago, lunch together and return to Wilmore—a 600 mile day.

May 10-11: Couple’s retreat for pastor Jeff Jacobs and wife Alida and their couples from south of Nashville TN, retreat at Methodist Center at Beersheba Springs, TN. 

June 12: Father’s Day with Mike and Kathy and Kathy’s parents, Rocky and Jennie Rockwell, Ruby Tuesday restaurant, London, Ky.   Early celebration because of travel conflicts the following weekend.

June 15-20: Central Christian College Reunion honoring 1945-46 “founders of intercollegiate women’s athletic schedule” including Robbie who was star player of basketball, softball, and speedball, and Don who was a cheerleader for the 45-46 season. Fly to Austin Texas for reunion with Don’s brother, David and wife Karen, travel with them to Central, and return, to fly home the following Monday.

June 25: Amy Ziegler marriage to Rob Wagner at UMC in Edinboro, PA. Travel to Akron, OH Quality Inn on June 24 to overnight and visit with John and Diane Anton who live there.

 July 1-3: Fourth of July weekend festivities at Winona Lake and Warsaw Indiana with “four seasons” group, including being guests at Phil and Marianne Smith home, Masterworks Concert on hillside at Winona Lake, Warsaw fireworks on the lake and dinner at Wildman home, church with all Sunday morning.

July 11-15: Trinitarian Images in Sexuality, Families, and Congregations, Doctor of Ministry Seminar DM 824, at Asbury Seminary, Wilmore, KY.

July 22-23: Kathy Joy birthday celebration, at Pine Mountain State Park, with guests of Tyler, Caleb, Isaiah, and Madison—great grandchildren for annual enjoyment of PMSP.    

July 30: U of Phoenix Graduation for Heather Joy-Damron with MBA.  We fly to Las Vegas at 10:19 a.m. Friday, July 29, drive to Kingman, AZ to overnight at Comfort Inn [428-753-5175], continuing on to the downtown Phoenix Hilton Hotel, then to the ceremony, then the next morning return to Las Vegas to enter three suites at Polo Towers Resort, downtown [702-261-1000] returning to KY on Saturday, August 6.  

September 29-31: “Risk Proofing Your Family Today,” at ATS President’s Retreat, Billy Graham “The Cove,” Asheville, NC.

October 7-9:  Four Season’s Fall Frolic, at Joy ranch Friday night after dinner at Cheddars Restaurant, Lexington, Berea Fall Craft Festival on Saturday plus Renfro Valley for Oak Ridge Boys’ concert, back for church at SCC Sunday morning at 11:30, and dinner at The Post House, Holiday Inn North.

October 26: “A Place at the Table,” for Christian Life Club devotion at WFMC, 7 p.m.

November 4-5: “Is There Life After Adolescence?” a strategy session for taking back our teens,with pastors and other leaders from North Central FMC Conference.  Pastor George Schleif, host [608-442-9871], event at Sky Lodge FMC Resort Camp [608-297-2566]  

December 24-31, “Christmas for Joys” at Star Island Resort, Kissimmee, FL. Phone: 407-997-8000.

December 30: 50th Anniversary Celebration for Charles and Rachel Howell, downtown Dallas.  Joys as guests, honoring presiding at the wedding in Rockwall, Texas, in 1955.
